I wish to have a tandem bicycle.
Arianna, 14
Retts syndrome
As her mother straps her into the seat, 14-year-old Arianna takes in her brand-new tandem bike. The two-seater is painted a beautiful shade of purple and even displays a Make-A-Wish® sign on the front. Yet, the best thing about Arianna’s new bike is that it was custom-built just for her.
Arianna has Retts syndrome and relies on a wheelchair to stay mobile. When asked what her wish would be, she and her family knew this bike would allow Arianna to enjoy the outdoors with her family, one thing she truly loves.
Make-A-Wish® volunteers present Arianna with an array of gifts during a celebration at a pizza restaurant. And the biggest surprise of all awaits Arianna just outside the building. As she and her family make their way outside, Arianna sees it coming. Jason from Freedom Custom brings the new bike right to Arianna, letting her know her wish has come true.
Now she’s ready. Helmet on? Check. Gloves in place? Check. With her mother seated behind her, her feet in place, and the sounds of family and friends rooting her on, Arianna and her mom take their first ride on the new bike, one ride Arianna is sure to never forget.
